  • 29th John K. Friesen Conference (Webinar)
    by SFU Gerontology Research Centre
    • What: This year’s Friesen conference will begin with a discussion of facility-based Long-term Care and ways to make it safer and better. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted a number of deficiencies, some relating to the physical plant and some to operations. The morning will open with a progress report on re-visioning standards. Attention will then turn to issues of staffing and to ways of ensuring not just quality care but also quality of life for residents and a positive work environment for staff.

  • Keeping Families Together: Reimagining Indigenous Child Welfare (In-Person/Live Streaming)
    by YWCA Metro Vancouver
    • What: YWCA Metro Vancouver will host this panel discussion to examine the state of the child welfare system and to imagine a more hopeful future. Four experts will share their perspectives and lived experiences. Designated special guests will bear witness to the truth sharing and will help create and hold a safe space for all. This will also be streamed on Facebook Live.

  • Systems of Criminalization: A BCCLA Panel (Webinar)
    by BC Civil Liberties Association
    • What: BCCLA lawyers Megan McDermott and Mara Selanders will break down the ways in which criminalization disproportionally impacts marginalized communities and the moves we and our allies are making locally and nationally to address these oppressive legal structures. ASL available.
