If You Can’t Get Legal Aid for Your Criminal Trial: How to Make A Rowbotham Application (Updated)
For people facing serious and complex criminal charges who have been denied legal aid but cannot afford a lawyer. Explains why, how, and when to ask the judge to appoint a free lawyer. Note: The French version doesn’t include recent updates that are in the English version.

The Greater Vancouver Law Students’ Legal Advice Society

LSLAP Manual (Updated)
This publication is the reference manual used by the Law Students’ Legal Advice Program, updated annually. The 2023 LSLAP Manual (47th Edition) consists of 23 chapters, with topics that include criminal law, human rights, workers’ compensation, strata law, and employment law.

  • Brief Introduction of BC Legal Planning Documents and Nidus Registry Service (Webinar)
    by Nidus Personal Planning Resource Centre and Registry
    • What: On the first Wednesday of each month, the Nidus Resource Centre will do a free online presentation. Nidus will do a short presentation on the legal planning documents available under BC legislation – e.g. Representation Agreements, Enduring Powers of Attorney, Wills – and a brief introduction to the Nidus Registry service. Then it is open to your questions. Your questions do not have to relate to the presentation.

  • Wills, Trusts & Estate Planning (Webinar)

  • ACFS’s School for Family Litigants (Webinar)

    • What: This 11-week course will help attendees have a better understanding of the steps and processes involved in a typical family law case. In this course, you will learn and receive guidance from experienced legal professionals such as lawyers, paralegals, legal coaches, and more. ACFS will not be giving legal advice or answer questions that are specific to an attendee’s case. The course is hosted on Zoom. There are 40 seats available.

  • Government Benefits Presentation with Chimo Community Services (In-Person)
    by Seniors First BC and Chimo Community Services
    • What: In partnership with Chimo Community Services, a Seniors First BC legal advocate will present an overview of federal and provincial government benefits for seniors, including Old Age Security (OAS), Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Fair Pharmacare, BC Senior Supplement, and Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters (SAFER). Mandarin Chinese interpretation provided.

  • Evictions (and Renovictions) in BC (Webinar)

    • What: Do you have questions about evictions in BC? Under what conditions can a landlord evict a tenant? How much notice do they need to give? What about compensation?     • What: In 2022 in Canada, there were 91,190 reports of fraud totaling 57,055 victims of fraud? with a total of $431M lost. This workshop introduces what frauds and scams are, common methods and schemes targeting Canadian seniors, safety strategies, and resources to consult if you or someone you know has been affected by frauds/scams.

  • Child and Youth Family Justice Conference (Webinar and In-Person)
    by Access to Justice BC, Representative for Children and Youth, Youth Voices, and Society for Children and Youth BC
    • What: This free conference focuses on meaningful participation of children and youth in family justice decision-making – this includes children and youth whose parents are separating and children and youth in care. The conference will be co-led and participated in by young people with diverse living experiences, and professionals from different sectors (justice, health, education, child welfare and community). In-person location to be announced.
