Law Week is a national event held annually in April celebrating the signing of Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms. This year, events are held in communities throughout British Columbia in March, April, and May. Below is a list of what’s going on this month:

  • Regional events
    • Saturday, April 13 (10:00 am – 1:30 pm), Nanaimo Courthouse
    • Saturday, April 13 (10:00 am – 2:00 pm), Victoria Courthouse
    • Tuesday, April 16 (5:00 – 8:00 pm), Kamloops Courthouse
  • Dial-A-Lawyer Day
    • Saturday, April 13 (10:00 am – 2:00 pm)
    • Call 604.687.3221 or 1.800.663.1919 and speak with a lawyer for FREE for up to 15 minutes about the following areas of law: business, employment, family, immigration, tort & motor vehicle, wills & estates.
  • Free Public Education Law Classes
    • April 1 – 27 (various dates)
    • For a list of all classes, locations, and contact info, visit BC Law Week 2019 website. Classes are made possible by People’s Law School. Topics include strata law, employment law, wills & estates, personal planning, and residential tenancy.
  • Student Outreach Program – Judges in the Classroom
    • Schools are invited to use an online booking application to request BC Provincial Court judges and BC sheriffs to present at their location – either in-person or by a live video presentation.
  • Courthouse Orientation and Court Watching
    • Any group in the community is welcome to take part in the Justice System Education Program. Participants visit the courthouse, speak with justice system professionals and experience court in action. Click here to book your group online.
