Free mediation for child support from Legal Aid BC

By Legal Aid BC

Legal Aid BC recently launched a new service on the MyLawBC website to provide free mediation for child support issues. The Family Resolution Centre (FRC) is an online service that helps separated parents with low and moderate incomes resolve issues about raising their children like where the kids will live, how important decisions will be made, and now child support.

The FRC is an online service where parents will exchange their ideas about how to resolve the issues important to their family. Parents are provided with information and resources and a space where they can work together to create an agreement that works for their family. If they get stuck, they can ask for the help of a mediator at the click of a button.

When a mediator comes into the process, they can help the parents find common ground. Five hours of free mediation is available for parenting issues and for child support, for a total of ten hours for parents who need to resolve both. The FRC combines self-help tools with expert assistance to reach a resolution that works best for each family.
