  • Elder Abuse: What is it? How do we deal with it? (Webinar)
    by Seniors First BC
    • What: Previously known as “Building Community Connections to Help Stop Mistreatment and Neglect of Older Adults”, this 60-minute workshop addresses the correlation between social isolation and abuse of older adults, types of abuse and people involved, and strategies to deal with abuse. We discuss the importance of staying connected to others through brainstorming community resources, and viewing a short video depicting a fictional story of social isolation and elder abuse.

  • Litigation as Storyteller: R v Desautel and the Recognition of the SINIXT (Webinar)
    by West Coast LEAF and CBABC
    • What: Join West Coast LEAF and the Canadian Bar Association BC Branch for a webinar discussion about R v Desautel and the role of litigation in revitalizing Sinixt identity and community. For 65 years, since 1956, the federal and provincial governments have claimed that the S??aýckstx (Sinixt), an Indigenous First Nation from BC’s West Kootenay region, are “extinct.” The Sinixt have been fighting for decades for legal recognition of their rights and identity, and in 2010, Rick Desautel began his journey through the Canadian court system after engaging in a ceremonial elk hunt.

    A 10-minute video. Family justice counsellors work in Family Justice Centres located in communities across the province to provide services to British Columbians going through separation or divorce.

People’s Law School

Many new and updated resources in PLS’s Clicklaw listings, including: 

  • Accidents and injuries
    Practical information on your rights when you’re injured in an accident. Topics include slip and falls, injuries from a defective product, and figuring out how much in the way of damages you might be entitled to.
  • Health care
    Practical information about you rights to health care and what you can do if you experience discrimination when receiving health care services.
  • Renting & co-ops
