Do you self-identify as an Aboriginal person or help people who do?

Legal Services Society (LSS)  has launched a new Aboriginal section on their website, dedicated to issues that are important to Aboriginal people.  The new section has a unique visual identity, and features legal information and resources, up-to-date community news (such as upcoming workshops), links to people who can help (grouped by areas of BC), and a growing list of LSS Aboriginal publications.

The section covers topics such as the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement, Gladue rights (the special consideration that judges must give an Aboriginal person at bail or sentencing hearings), and the First Nations Court of BC in New Westminster. Other legal issues will be added as the section continues to evolve.

It’s report card time for thousands of students across BC. And speaking of report cards, West Coast LEAF has added the 2010 CEDAW Report Card to the Reform & Research section of Clicklaw. This report was produced by West Coast LEAF with input from various community agencies in BC. It looks at the government’s performance against the international standards of women’s rights and freedoms outlined in the United Nations’ Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
